  1. Hi. I´ve tried to convert a avi (DivX) file to SVCD and followed the description given on this page. The problem is, that CCE cannot open the .vdr file from VirtualDub. I always get the warning, that it is an invalid avi file. Somebody has an idea? Marcus

Probably you are using cce 2.6. It does not accept .vdr files. Use cce sp 2.5 if you can.
The 2nd chance is to convert the .vdr with VFAPI 1.03b.

  3. In the description is explained, that VirtualDub is doing "online"-frameserving. Is there a possibility to do this before or after encoding with CCE. And by the way I´ve used the 2.5 version. Marcus

  4. What's funny is that I was just playing with CCE and was having the same problem. Not sure if you are making the same mistake I was but I using "open" rather then right clicking in the main window. I was able to find and add the .vdr but still cant figure out how to actually get it to start encoding

Does anyone have a link for step by step VCD and DVD encoding instructions with CCE. I never had any use for SVCDs but would like to compare CCE's speed and quality to TMPGEnc and PWI

  5. How can you open the .vdr file with "open"? If I do this then CCE means that this is no ECL.

  6. I seem to have gotten over-enthusiastic about someone who was having a similar problem...after re-reading other posts I realized my mistake. I think you are correctly opening the file and I don't think I can help you with your problem. My only success so far (my first night playing with it) has been to frameserve with avisythn to CCE then multiplex with TMPGEnc. I don't need to resize because I was capturing at 720x480 and was looking for DVD (720x480) output. Not sure how I will handle VCD encodes, thats why I would like a VCD guide specifically for VCDs with CCE. Anyway, if it is possible I probably just made myself sound like more of an idiot Hope something I said helped...but I doubt it

You have to install the handler. Depending on your OS you also have to the proxy mode. First try it without the proxy.
CCE 2.5 accept either .vdr or .vdr.avi.

@ smokin*1, cce is not the best for low res MPEG-1. TMPGEnc. is by far the better choise (or Panasonic).
However, here is a cce guide:
    http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce_guide.htm
Start encoding by pressing the "encode" buttom

  9. Tryed installing the handler and teh .vdr loaded right up...proud to say I figured out the encode button part on my own

I am encoding a VCD standard at the moment, just curious, I like playing with all my new toys! I do like CCE's speed with the multipass VBR without having to resize, will keep it handy when it's DVD encoding time

    Cheers

CCE 2.62 does not support .vdr or .avs files, if you want to frameserve you HAVE to use 2.50

  14. My CCE 2.5 still does not accept the vdr files. Nether on an W98 nor on an win2k system. I´ve installed the handler and I´ve tried the proxyon and proxyoff configuration. Still I get the warning, that the file is invalid or bad.

I tried the same configuration (Windows XP), V-Dub, proxy on or off, V-dub and CCE 2.5... trying to open the .vdr file crashes CCE instantly.

I'm trying to encode a "problem" AVI that I captured with V-Dub. CCE won't encode it alone (stops at the last few frames of each pass). It won't encode using the TMPGEnc/VFAPI frameserve method either. I can only get it to work by encoding with TMPGEnc alone.

I wish there was some way that worked 100% of the time, but I guess that's never how it happens...
