Hi, i love the way the mpeg wizard is able to render an entire 2 hour video in less then 10mins. How is it able to do that. I tried premiere and it takes atleast twice realtime just to render some basic cuts and joins while mpeg wizard just blazes through anything. Is there any other program that is able to work efficiently. Havent tried videoredo but i guess its a fast too. Whats wrong with expensive programs like tmpgenc and premiere...

    confused...pls help

Well, for one, "render" is the wrong word.

Premiere is re-encoding the video. Womble only encodes the frames/GOPs where cuts are made.

Premiere is an NLE, advanced work. Edit video, render new objects (graphics, effects), and then encode a new video.

Womble and VideoRedo are MPEG editors. Basic cut/paste and a few minor editing features. Again, just re-encodes the places where changes are made.

    Make more sense now?

Okay... so for basic mpeg edits i should stick to Womble and VideoRedo and anything more complex i should go back to premiere. How about tmpgenc mpeg editor which everybody is talking about. Which category does it fall into. Does it also re-encode the whole video or only where cuts are made.

Are there any freeware mpeg editors. Thx for all your help. Great board.
