Hi, I'm looking for a replacement for Pinnacle Studio that has all the same editing/authoring features but actually works...have heard good things about Womble, however, in poking around the free sample, I can't seem to find a way to split the video and audio of my imported VOB files for separate editing purposes. Can anyone tell me if this feature is available? Thanks

I don't think it demultiplexes. The good news is that there are several good, free demultiplexers listed in the tools section of this website. I use Rejig, but any of the others with good reviews will be fine. PgcDemux is also recommended frequently.

[Edit] I was wrong it does demultiplex, I just forgot. See page 168 of the pdf guide.

Yes, Womble can: Tools -> MPEG DeMultiplexer

But, like usually_quiet, I use other tools for this. My favorite (not free) is TMPGEnc MPEG Editor - easy, fast, solid, reliable, different combos, and does batches.

Actually, since you're searching for another editor you may want to consider this one for simple edits (cuts/joins) - also lossless like Womble.

Yes, it's limited to the simplest tasks, but it's those that can be the most time consuming and this tool delivers as a companion to any MPEG editor. IMO, TMPGEnc MPEG Editor has got to be the most under-rated app on the planet. Nobody seems to know about it.

EDIT: Just saw usually_quiet's edit after posting this.
I hate VHS. I always did.

  4. MPEG DVD Wizard is by far my favorite little NLE. It has reliable frame-accurate editing and only re-encodes video when it has to. The demultiplexer works just fine. I do a lot of work with videos that have several different sources of varying quality that need to be spliced together and synched with an audio track and I find it works just about flawlessly for this purpose.
