  1. I'm a newbie. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks, and it's been working fine until now.

I'm using NeroVision Express to edit and burn dvd's that I've recorded on my standalone DVD recorder. It has been taking about 20-30 minutes to transcode and burn about 4 GB onto a DVD.

Now it has suddenly started taking 3 hours to transcode. I've tried it on several different VOB's, so that's not the problem.

I did see a post about having DMA enabled rather than PIO mode. I checked my IDE's. The primary channel says DMA.

The secondary channel has "DMA if available" selected, but then it says current transfer mode on Device 0 is PIO. I can't seem to change that one. The transfer mode on Device 1 is DMA.

Does anyone have any ideas on what caused the sudden change? I haven't changed any settings on my computer or in Nero.

    Thanks!

What is device 0? If it's just about any of your drives, DVD or HD, the normal method if your drive has reverted to PIO mode is to delete the channel it's on and let the OS re-install it and when it reboots it hopefully will reset to DMA mode.

Reverting to PIO mode is a fault with XP. If it has several tries to read a bad disc, it changes to PIO mode. You will need to do the above to reset it.
