  1. Been doing several captures with my JVC GR-DVM75 camera into the firewire card and trying to capture with Ulead Video Studio 8.

Usually drops the connection within the first 5 minutes -- essentially as though the cord was pulled and the video cuts off there. This happens where I have to restart captures about 3 times and usually after the 4th or 5th time I can finally get video transfers to go through unfazed (from cam to comp). But first 3 times or so it drops.

Started disabling audio preview to see if that was affecting it but it wasn't, same thing still. A while back I used to think I have a faulty firewire cable port on the camera and maybe a little jiggling was causing it but since then have always left cam/cord untouched on a desk, but same thing.

This also happens, even worse, when I use Microsoft Media Movie Maker. Any comments or thoughts? Thanks much.

As I said before , usb devices connected to the pc can cause issues with firewire in use .

The athlon pc's are built and sold by me , and outrun p4's (2800) 10 to 15% in all video capture and editing tests .

I'd be checking what updates have been applied , some do cause known issue's .

Check for updated drivers for the firewire card from the manufacturer , not ms update .

Check ulead for updates , and the forum for others reporting similar issues , the problem may have been solved over there by now .

I'm about too throw uleads video studio out the window due to being plagued by issue's under sp2 , 2 fixed , one not .

    hmm,

I have never had this happen. I have 2 computers capping firewire with VS8 as my PVR for extended periods. My machines are a bit faster than yours (2.4GHz Celerons and Pentiums) but I also cap firewire to an old 750MHz PIII Vaio notebook with no problem with VS8.

Suggest something else is causing the problem.

Minimize background tasks. disconnect other devices.
