  1. I need to find DVD-RW that will work on a Dell installed Phillips 8631 RW Drive and a Toshiba DR-2 DVD Recorder. I have yet to find a disk that will work for both even though they both burn to DVD-RW. I'd like to use them to convert VHS to the recorder then load them into my PC.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

What media have you tried? Verbatim are rock solid, so you would expect to do the job. Are you able to find a DVD-R that is compatable in both? If so which?

Are you "finalizing" the RW disc before attempting playback??? if not, that's your problem.

I use RW media as an intermediate storage medium to convert tape and TV recordings to XVID files that I store on my PC. I have found that everything works more smoothly when I do a complete erase after I finish with a disc. This does a much better job of cleaning up the disc. I have far fewer problems when I do this. A Kprobe scan after a disc is rerecorded after a complete erase compared with recording after a quick erase shows why. The scan results after a recording made over a quick erase are far worse. Since the reflectivity of RW media is less, anything you can do to improve the recording helps. Interchangeability has always been an issue with RW media.
