  3. The problem is that, I can't get it to rip the movie. Using shrink, it starts analyzing, but it freezes up after about 14 sec.

  4. sounds like hitch has protection that shrink doesnt bypass. try dvdd or dvd43 and see if that works.

I had no problem when I used the latest version of DVD Decrypter and Shrink. Hitch has the copy protection where there are all sorts of intentional mastering errors , but Decrypter read through that. Now what I do is first rip it to the hard drive and THEN I use Shrink to back up from the files on my local drive. I hope this helps.

Also let me add the disclaimer that burning copies of DVDS is really only defendable if you are making back ups of movies you already own. Along with Hitch I purchased Lois and Clark Season One, Kojak Season One, and Ed Wood, so I spent close to $150 for all of that. I would love to know how anyone can deny that we have a right to fair use when we spend like that. If the major companies want to curb copying may I suggest that they do one of the following:

    1) Include a second copy of each disc as a back up, not unlike getting back up copies of the coftware that comes with a fresh computer.

    2) Offer replacements for damaged disks at no cost and no postage as long as the original damaged disk is returned to the customer service department.

Of course that won't happen because they want us to spend every dime they can squeeze out of us. How else do you explain things like a SPECIAL edition of every single movie that was just released a month before. At last count there were THREE different DVD offerings of The Exorcist.

  8. Sometimes it is not the softwre, your reader may not handle the induced errors as well as another might. If possible, switch to a different piece of hardware and you may find your problems clearing up. In my experience, what hardware may work for one disk with the induced errors, may not swork for a different disk, and vice versa. Nyah Levi

  9. The real issue is the recording artists and movie studios would like an automatic withdrawal to take place from our personal bank accounts every time we recall a favorite lyric from a song or line or scene from a movie . . . .

Of course they think it is ok to charge multiple times for the same "artistic content" via rentals, new versions of releases, new media technology, tariffs on media "assumed" to be used for copying copyrighted material.
I think these folks talk out of both sides of their faces and ends of their bodies . . . .

Yes I tend to remove foreign language audio because i don't lsiten to it ant then I can up the compression ratio a bit so that I get better video quality.

  15. I don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem with Dances With Wolves. I finally succeeded by playing the movie (for a minute or two) before each part of the backup process (rip with dvddecrypter, shrink with Shrink, burn with dvddecrypter). It seems to unlock something but I haven't been able to find out what. But, if it worked for me, maybe it will for you too. Good luck

  16. you could always try to remove the "hitch" movie, thus gaining even more space for quality veiwing, rather than that piece of shit movie.

  17. it's because it has the new Sony crc protection on it...the old dvd decryptor will come up with errors, but the new version will bypass the protection...

Hitch might be a shit movie - but it is Number 2 so far this year in gross $$ at the box office oddly enough (world wide)

World Wide Box Office 2005 to june 12th .. in millions..

1 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith $677.9
    2 Hitch $362.9
    3 Robots $240.1
    4 Constantine $229.5
    5 Howl's Moving Castle $218.4
    6 Kingdom of Heaven $204.3
    7 The Pacifier $184.5
    8 The Ring Two $155.7
    9 Madagascar $142.1

note - several movies like Sin City are not in full world release yet and have not earned enough to get on the list ..

What's the MEDID ID on those MAXELL DVD-R? Download DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find the MEDIA ID.

    thanks Holmes,

Thats the same technique I am normally using, but unfortunately I still unable to rip Hitch movie. Disc is brand new. No scratches or anything like that.

I just tried newest DVDDecrypter v3.5.4.0 like you suggested but have no luck. Instead of failing on first VOB file, this time (with newest version) it fails at forth VOB.

    TIA

Your computer has problems or your DVD is a bad/defective copy. Hitch rips flawlessly in ISO mode with the last release of DVDDecrypter.

If your copy of it isn't a defect and you can rip it, then yes, Shrink will do the job.
