  1. Hello All.

I've had this recorder for six weeks and it's a great unit. The only problem I have is I can't seem to get the high speed dubbing to work. I've been through the manual several times and still don't understand. Can anyone explain how it works?

  2. It's not easy to high speed dub on this recorder. You can't do much editing on a clip before you can't high speed. If you split a file in 2 you can't high speed dub any of the 2 files. You can add chapters and a indexpix and that's about it.

  3. "High-speed"
I think the highest speed on DVD-RW can only be 2x speed. So to fill a DVD disc (120min) lasts 60 min at 2x speed.
    You cannot use 4x DVD-RW

Ok. I think I'm beginning to get this. If I trim two minutes off the front and a few off the back, I can't do a high speed dub. In order to do any high speed dubbing it has to be an untouched clip. That kind of sucks. I'll try an unedited clip and see what happens.

    Thanks for the help guys.

  5. I have a Panasonic E80 there are two ways to edit one is shorten segments and the other is Play List.

Shorten segments deletes the MPEG file you do not want. And let's you get more hard drive space back.

Play List let's you edit but does not delete any thing.

I know this is about a JVC DVD recorder but you might have two ways of edtting.

See if there is a play list editting iit might be called some thing else on the JVC.

  6. I have a question about this unit. If you divide a file can you do high speed dubbing? I record some shows back to back on the same channel. So this is something I really need to have.

If you have to record a file if you can not high speed dub. How is the recoded file. I think about buying another unit. And this one has been on my mind.

If you divide a file high speed dubbing will not work. I also recorded some shows back to back on the same channel. I then split the file and tried to record each using high speed dubbing. It didn't work. I could only record at actual running speed. I did a test run on a 15 minute clip recorded at sp that was unedited and it recorded in 3 minutes using high speed dub. That means that you should be able to dub an hour in 12 minutes. I also like to record two or three shows on the same channel. I'll have to be sure that my programs don't go over 120 minutes in sp in order to use high speed dub. I guess I can always record them separately and then use the high speed dub.

According to the manual you can edit your playlist. I'll try this on the 15 minute clip and see what happens.

Here are the results for my 15 minute clip test. Using playlist editing I broke the clip down into two segments. One was 10 minutes long and the other one was 5 minutes long. Both clips would not dub at high speed. The first one took 11 minutes and the second one took 6 minutes. Playlist editing didn't affect the original file. The 15 minute original clip still dubbed at 3 minutes.

    Interesting.

I wonder what the reason can be for this big difference.

Is the movie recompressed during dubbing? Or just copied to the disc?

    When it's not high-speed dub it's re-encoded.

  11. Thx Stampe.

I asked a question in an other topic, but nobody's responsed, so I ask again here.

This JVC is said to have "HQ two-pass encoding" feature. Is that true? How to select the two-pass encoding?

Yes it's true. You can't select it - it's there by default.
