Hi Guys!
I have a WinTV Go card and had it for a while. It's been touch and go. I had to download and reinstall the drivers a couple of times. Not too horrible. Only this time.
For whatever reasons, XP started to try to install "multimedia video drivers" for it at bootup. A couple of them in fact. "Found new hardware" and so on. I don't recall changing anything, or using it lately for that matter. When I tell it to go ahead and install it, it will fail. Cannot find drivers for it. So the viscious circle is now in full run.
I had taken the drivers I had downloaded. Used HWCLEAR to clear old drivers and rebooted as they tell you to. Tried to reinstall the drivers and it failed when it ALMOST finished, telling me I don't have administrative rights!![]()
I am logged on as Administrator! So what gives? I went and downloaded the newest drivers. Starts installing - same thing. It says I'm not an administrator. I got nothing so far from Hauppauge support.
Can anyone help? I must be doing something wrong. But I'm repeating previous motions that worked before. Never mind what caused this in the first place.
Appreciate all inputs. Good bad or ugly 8)

Windows XP bug. You will have to go into the registry settings for your card and give yourself rights there.

Oh yummi. That's what I wanna do!
Like I could make up one of those funky Keys to insert into an obscure location somewhere in the registry.
Any pointers where I should start to crash the system? Actually, it should not be bad, but I had scanned the registry for Hauppauge and it does not offer me any ideas as to where to put what to override this bug.
Any pointers towards a How-To would be greatly appreciated. -
You just have to search the registry for the correct keys, then right click the top branch and enable permissons.

Thanks for the help.
Of course - nothing worked. Permissions meant nothing. Safe Mode meant nothing. Nothing worked. 50 or so reboots and tries.
I solved the problem but it was one of those 9 out of 10 you gotto sweat it out yourself issues.
1, I had used HWCLEAr to delete all applications Hauppauge. deleted files, directories and everything.
2, Removed the board.
3, Booted without the board.
4, Rebooted and refused installation by the Found Hardware Wizard by letting it TRY to find drivers, and it failed as it did before many times. Hit "Finish" instead of cancel.
5, Installed downloaded drivers and software (WinTV 2000, radio) this time without problems. Just answered OK to install to Microsoft's stern warning about how I'm killing myself installing something they do not recommend.
6, Rebooted.
Behold! Microsoft Found New Hardware. After the drivers are installed, of course. This time however, when answered YES to search, it FOUND the damn drivers and installed them.
So here it is. Hope this benefits someone. And I hope I'll not see that Found New Hardware wizard on this issue again. I know I can disable it. But I like to know when something went wrong. In this case, perhaps WinTV got corrupted, so it had tried to install it unsuccessfully. I'll never have the answer. As many times before..
