  1. hi folks, I just found an issue with ATI drivers so I explain the solution:

NEVER install an ATI driver with a firewall in silent mode: the installation need to
establish local connections (loopback) to set some settings (after reboot).
In my case this cause (silently !):
    - no more overlay with video
    - very slow scroll browsing web pages
    - ATI CCC can't start

it is imbelivable that ATI tools says nothing like "can't establish TCP connection" !
I spend 2 days to found the solution !
    THANKS ATI !

does it? I installed without a connection...
ATI's CCC can completely block video rendering (depending on output, wmv's specifically) with every editor installed...even wmm
you can substitute another "control panel" for CCC I think but my solution was to simply uninstall CCC until needed, especially when viewing mpegs on tv and burning disks

PS - CCC is 45mb...an interfering control panel that's simply not needed to clone a display and send a signal to a tv

I guess your AV was blocking registry address - no Firewall issue.

And of course you can install pure drivers, without crappy CCC.

read me again, I spoke about local connections. I mean TCP connection beetween
two application inside the same machine. such connections are named "loopback connections".
My firewall stop this kind of shit and the ATI driver cannot install correctly in this case.

Most software/driver installations also suggest shutting down all running applications and disabling all antivirus and firewall applications. At least the nVidia drivers do, I haven't used ATI in awhile, but I'm sure it's the same.
