  2. check out the brand specific forums on cdfreaks.com for your best info on them. Personally I'd go Pioneer but I'd hold off because the 109 has some issues that don't seem to be getting fixed and the 110 isn't too far off. My 109 burns excellent on everything except 16x CAV media, which is what I bought it for. I locks up on the leadout about 1/3 of the time. It it wasn't for that it would be perfect. I'm hoping the 110 resolves this issue.

  4. My Pioneer A106 died within one year of purchase (cannot replace as it's bought overseas); may be just my bad luck.
    I now have the LG.

There are actually very few issues with Pioneer. Some burner randomly have issues on 16x CAV media, but that's likely to be fixed with future firmware.

    Everything else is fine.

You'd be shocked how many "problems" are usually user error or just bad blaming.

  7. The leadout lockup is the only issues i've had with the 109. And it isn't just some of them. Just look on cdfreaks. It's quite a few of them. Pioneer is aware of the problem and have been for some time. 3 firmwares later and still no fix. I'm not holding my breath. But outside of that it burns everything else with excellent quality. I just wish I hadn't bought a 100 spindle of TYG03s that i end up wasting a third of.

Yeah, I've seen that too on some MCC03RG20, but only in some software. Burning an ISO has no such issues. Using RNM4 does it every 5th disc maybe, may be related to the drivers hacks? And then Nero does it, but not as often, far less.

And even then, if you wait about 2-3 minutes, the MCC03RG20 lock-ups were never coasters, the discs were fine. Worst I had to do was reboot because it hung the drive.

No problems with neither brand, and I had most of the models from both.
102 or 103 (dont remember now) died on me within a week; and I had some compatibility problems with last 2 models (mostly with 106) but usually firmware upgrade fixed it or (hopefully) will fix it; I never had any hardware problems with LGs, theyre all rock-solid, but I had more compatibility problems with them than with Pioneers (by compatibility problems in both cases I mean burning discs at slower speeds than indicated by some brands).

The only advantage of LG over Pioneer is its DVD-RAM writing capability. But its not important if you dont use DVD-RAMs.

    I like Pioneer.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  11. I've had the lockups occur with ISOs in DVD Decrypter, compilations in Nero (several versions) and Prassi Ones. Tried with 4 versions of firmware. They never finish for me, requiring a reboot to unlock the system. Also the discs all played fine until the end where a minute or so was cut off. Of course my NEC3520A screws up the leadin on the same media. Every disc I burn with it stutters through the first 30 seconds of the disc then plays fine.
