    Hello,

Well it looks like there will be no NHL season this winter!

Time to look up your local college or minor league hockey team if you want to watch hockey this winter! (in North America that is, not sure what season it will be will where you come from! ).

All will be well in Hershey, PA..... home of the oldest AHL franchise - The Hershey Bears.

And I'll be sitting several rows behind the bench to watch all the action!

    Hello,

Maybe I'll go to a Plymouth Whalers (OHL) game this year. The Compuware Arena is only a couple miles away! .

We have the New Mexico Scorpions. We're not big enough for an NHL team. Doesn't matter - I've never been to a hockey game in my life, although I followed the Blackhawks faithfully for years.

Yeah, New Mexico itself is the fifth largest state after Alaska, Texas, Calif. and Montana.

    Arizona is sixth.

    Interesting size comparison:

United Kingdom (incl. islands): 244,000 sq. km

    New Mexico: 313,000 sq. km

    Verrry diplomatic

Now, in honor of the queen, let's all cover our hearts and sing God Save The Queen:

    My country, ’tis of thee,
    Sweet land of liberty,
    Of thee I sing;
    Land where my fathers died,
    Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
    From every mountainside,
    Let freedom ring!.

    ..............

Oops. That's the same song, but different lyrics

World cup is now done, no nhl in the near future. Well this sucks. For those of us lucky enough to have a team near us there is the WHA.

    Quite proper, pip pip.

As I sit here typing on my aluminium laptop (actually magnesium), pondering my country's defence, watching the ball game on my colour telly. Maybe ring up a few chaps and have them on. Tossers, the lot of them.

Then I'll go to the loo and take a piss (the room illuminated by my wolfram incandescent light bulbs), wash my hands, then prepare for high tea. Honey, be a dear and get the scones and watercress please? Jolly good.

Tomorrow I plan to throw a few things in the boot, check under the bonnet, tap the wing, go fill it with petrol and off to work I go, driving on the left side of the road, sitting on the bleedin right side of my auto. Nothing wrong with that, wot?

Until I get hit head-on by a Walmart tractor trailer going 85 MPH down westbound Interstate 40

They will find out what a strike will do to their sport, much like major league baseball did in 1994. It almost killed the sport, and baseball has a hell of a lot more viewers and attendance than hockey does.

Your right cap, I think a long strike will kill hockey in most of the USA. I dont think that will happen here in detroit but i think it would bounce back in canada also.

I can't think of a worse thing to do to already financially shaky teams. And how this will help the players in the long run is beyond me.

If post-strike viewership is down, and it will be, there's less revenue for the league, less for each team, and that means less for salaries.

Good job guys. Take your puck and go home. :P

Unlike the other major sports, the NHL's revenue from broadcasting is relatively small, $449 million from national and local contracts and new media in 2002-03, according to the league. The five games of the Stanley Cup finals on ABC averaged just a 2.6 rating last spring and the two on ESPN a 1.2 cable rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. This year's Super Bowl had a 41.3 rating on CBS, while last year's World Series averaged a 12.8 on Fox and this year's NBA finals an 11.5 on ABC.

The Teletubbies got higher daily ratings than the Stanley Cup did!

The NHL is dead and buried if they don't get at least 51% of their games in this season. They've been struggling for years to make a dent into the mainstream market. Baseball survived because its a cultural icon. Hockey isn't, in the United States anyway. And it's the US broadcasting market that drives revenue.

If you want NHL hockey this season please sign my petition:

    Dear NHL owners,

We, the fans (forthwith refered to as the sheep), want our hockey, whatever the cost. We're happy to pay $75 per ticket so that you can pay the players (forthwith refered to as the "higher life forms") whatever millions per game they desire.

We are the same people who are willing to pay $14 to see Jackass The Movie, The Real Cancun, and other works of art. We are also the same people who want cheap gas but are not willing to keep our 10 mile per gallon SUV's in the garage.

Please give our gods whatever they want so we can go back to sleep and not have to think.

I couldn't agree more. I feel the NHL has gotten the shaft for the us networks in promoting the game. ESPN was scheduled to show a record low amount of games this season. They even got rid of NHL2NIGHT. I loved that show.
