Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
-
Hello,
Wow... The players union offered a 24% salary cut this year! And some other concessions.
Maybe they'll save the season after all. They'll keep talking in the next week or so so that's at least something to be hopefull about.
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
It's a 236 page proposal that will take a week or so for the owners to read and interpret. Then they said they will give a counter proposal. While it's positive news, it still is not enough to save the season.
The owners have already said that it does not include a salary cap, but a taxation system - and they have already said a resounding "NO!" to that before and they appear to not even to want to negotiate that part - they want a cap and their counter proposal will have a cap in it.
So, unless the players decide to give in to the cap, there won't be a season this year.
Did you see the players doing the "Worldstars Tour" over in Europe? 10 games in eastern European countries that can be seen on a pay per view basis back here in North America.... what a joke.

Hello,
Shoozelboy - It may not be enough to save the season but at least they made a serious move in the right direction.
No I don't have cable/satellite so I couldn't see the exhibition games even if I wanted to pay for them.
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I agree - it's a positive move for both parties... I just think that given the proposal and the owners hard stance on the cap, there is not enough time to salvage even half a season at this point.... it's depressing in it's own way.
I wouldn't pay for the broadcast in any case - it's a joke. Some of the countries they are playing in (some, not all) have very low incomes...so how are any die hard hockey fans going to afford to watch them play - unless they are already rich?? As for the pay per view - I was never a fan of that for individual events... I like the season packages that are offered on DirecTV and Dish for baseball, football, hockey - but with the NHL in the condition it is in right now, I think it's crap that these guys who already have money are going to charge more for people to see them play... if they had any class at all - they would let the folks in for free and broadcast it free... sell advertising if they want to make money... They have some big balls for pulling a stunt like this. -
I read earlier that Gary Betteman hates the luxury tax.
This will probably not fly. -

D DAY for the nhl season??????????
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
The owners already rejected the players proposal but are supposed to come up with a counter-proposal.

Not gonna happen.... Been watching it on TV here in Toronto.... Bettemen just finished his press conference a moment ago.....
No future talks planned. -

Hello,
http://www.detnews.com/2005/wings/0501/07/h01-53491.htm
Well I guess its really over for the season if they won't even hold a governors meeting. As of the print of the article 571 games had been lost out of the 1000 games of the season (82 games for 32 teams).
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I think you need to go to Northcat's math class, Yoda - 82 games among 32 teams would be 1312 games.... (2 teams per game for 82 games = 16 match ups x 82 games = 1312)
Although I never kept track, I thought they only played 80 games a year? I know the AHL does it that way (season tickets are 40 home games so there are 40 away games = 80 ). I don't have a schedule from last season to count them up for the Flyers.... -

Hello,
Well it looks like they're probably going to anounce the cancellation of the season soon...(officially I mean)....
Man this has sucked not having hockey...
I can get CBC here being close to Windsor and all. CBC is showing "MOVIE NIGHT IN CANADA" Saturday nights instead of hockey

Players got bigger and faster: NHL is boring and will not change if they do not increase the skating surface. Maybe they can reduce the number of players to 4, but this is impossible.
Anyway, Bettman fucked it up pretty bad. If he stays, everybody will drown. -

No I'm no fan of the LOCK systems - except of courste for the RED WINGS LEFT WING LOCK- gotta love it
But remember back to the mid 90's when we had the "RUSSIAN FIVE" on the WINGS???? Larionov-Fedorov-Fetisov-Koslov-Konstantinov????
Those guys could SKATE! And they were on regualtion ice. They simply passed and waited for an opening. If someone was going to whop em they'd duck and slip a pass to an open wing and get a great shot on goal.
I remember one time when PRIMEAU was still on the Wings and he was on the Russian line they stuck an OV on the end of his name tag on his jersey!
Actually the FLAMES and TAMPA both had a great offense in last years playoffs. I think the teams are starting to abandon the all out TRAPS of the 90's.
I still remember the shootouts the Wings had in the early 90's (I know the 80's were really high scoring but I wasn't interested in hockey back then....) My favorite non playoff game back then was when the wings played MONTREAL and WHIPPED ROY!!!It was like 8-2 or some wild blowout. They'd tear up the ice and score on almost every attempt. That was ROY's last game in MONTREAL and asked to be traded after that. That's when the WINGS-AVS rivalry FIRST got started

BUMP!
Hey I finally saw some hockey!
A friend had an extra ticket for college hockey so I said yes.

They played an exhibition game against the US development team. Actually it was pretty good action. Apparently some of them are going to be on the UM team next year.
Ahh.... It was fun to actually see the game of hockey being played. And it was a shoot out - UM won 6-5 on a last second goal - ok it was 5 seconds to go but still close!

Hi,
Just heard on the news that a tentative agreement had been reached. I seriously hope it sticks and they'll start the season on time.
