I'm not sure where I went wrong - but I'm willing to redo the burn to fix it.
I took an 1.2gig avi and split into two files using virtualdub. Then I treated each 1/2 as a separate movie. I removed audio from both halves using Virtualdubmod as a .wav then, using ffmpeggui, I converted them to AC3. The video halves I encoded using TMPGenc (CBR). Then I remuxed using TDA.
Now, when playing, the first disk is fine..but the second..about 1/2 way thru the audio goes out of sync.
Any suggestions on how to redo? Maybe it was the source? But the above steps are how I do my other avi's ..and they turn out fine...
    Thanks for any comments...

Try muxing with TMPGenc. Use a different ac3 encodeer like besweet. Does it get progressivily get further out of sync, or just at one place for a certain amount.

Not sure what you're suggesting here
    Try muxing with TMPGenc
I've never used Besweet before - is it better than ffmpeggui?
As for your last question - I would say it must go out of sync at some point, since all of a sudden, during a closeup you notice it and then it stays that way. After saying that, I'm wondering if there was a 'burp' during wav to ac3 - or at some point in the audio convertion ......do programs burp...?

Besweet isn't better, it just may encode differently and not produce the same error. If the sync is not progressive, you can easly fix it. But I am not sure what program to use for ac3.

probably some problems when you splitted the avi. if it is mp3 vbr audio and you use audio->direct stream copy you will get problems.

Yes..it was mp3 audio. Whenever I use virtualdub I always set to 'direct stream copy'.
To avoid this happening in the future - can you point me to a guide where I can read up on how I should have done it?

    Thanks...
