  1. I get errors every now and again.
PC shut down 2 weeks ago with page file error, i never done anything to correct it and it never happened again. (so far)
just now left PC encoding, came back PC was running but blank screen, rebooted said something about cpu speed being adjusted. WTF?
anyway reset them in BIOS seems to be ok.
so my question is even if u are PC expert does silly things keep happening on your PC for no apparent reason?
ok i know they are complicated beasts throwing around millions, nay billions of 1'ns and 0's per sec but why the unpredictability?
    did i just answer myself?

Things rarely happen for no reason, but at the same time, there may be no easy way to find out why.

One important thing to check is your CPU temperature during the encode. If your computer reset the CPU speed, that would make me suspect an overheat and the computer is lowering the speed to save the CPU. Do you have a temperature alarm or shutdown activated in BIOS? Cleaned the dust out of the system lately? I would monitor the temps, especially the CPU to prevent damage. Maybe improved cooling or an extra case fan.

A crash during encoding can happen because it uses a lot of CPU power. If you check your task manager during encoding, it will probably show 100% CPU usage. If any program tried to use the CPU at that time, it could crash the system. Antivirus programs, any scheduled programs or something that wants to access the internet can cause problems.

With the Taskmanager, check and see what's running as you encode. You might want to disable some if this happens often. Make sure nothing is scheduled to run while encoding.

You can test this out. Start an encode and then start launching programs. You won't get far without a crash.

Windows will sometimes tell you why it crashed, but the explanation may not make much sense.

  3. thanks for reply.
i will go over it when i'm sober.
but i suspect the fact i cobbled together my pc with bits of wood and 6 inch nails may be the problem.
