I have Sony trv-890e and Win2000.
It has (hacked) enabled DV-IN and DV-OUT.
When I try to connect the camera to my PC, the computer stops responding. (mouse pointer won't move)... and when I disconnect the dv-cable, the computer starts responding again.
Strang..
Is there a faulty DV driver ??

1) Win2000 or Win2000 Pro?
2) What Service Pack, if any, are you running? -
Sorry.
Win2000 Pro
Service Pack 4.
Funny think is that the camera has worked before.. but now it then to work at 1 out of 10. -
It's called a "firewire" cable, not a DV cable. Now that you know what it is, look in the MS KB.

Okey, DV=firewire.
But then, what is "MS KB" ?
(microsoft KiloByte)
Is there a driver to download for the Firewire card ? (it came with the pinnacle box) -
Thanx.. I will check this software out.
Did not find any drivers on MS page.. only some drivers for panasonic cameras and XP..
Well, thanx for helping!
I guess a new installation might work instead.. -
Hello!
I have almost the same problem.
I was using the handycam Sony TRV265E on winxp sp1 and work'it.
Recently, I try to copy to handy one movie which are capturing and editing with Windows Movie Maker (about 1 min.) but, because after 20 min. was not finished, I close with task manager Windows Movie Maker. After that, my system not recognise handycam. I try win2000 sp3, and install a clean winxp sp1 without succes.
When i connect i-link cable DVin apear on LCD at handycam.
If anyone know a solution, please help.
Thanks.
P.S. Sorry for my engleash. -
If the camera you are using only has usb capabilities , remove all other usb devices prior to connecting camera and recording from it .
This is a well known problem with sony units , and this warning is a small piece of print in the middle of the manuals .
Some users may be experiencing the blue memmory dump warning screen from xp , this is what is causing the problem , and the camera is to be the only usb device connected while capture and editing is being performed .
Camera should always be powered on and in usb streaming mode prior to connecting to pc .
For those wanting to avoid the problem , and unit supports firewire , use this instead .
The other way is to output to vcr , then the vcr output is connected to capture card on pc .
For under $80 , you avoid usb and firewire issues , which may be harmfull to your pc in the long run .
Start capture om pc , start dv playback , stop camera at end , stop capture , edit for dvd if required .
Also handy for those wanting copies on vhs tape , cause they dont have a pc ...
