    Hi,

I have a cable TV provider, with a so-called "decoder" box, which has 2 outputs with scart connectors, one for the TV set, the other for "recorder".
I would like to record movies and other stuff on my computer, in order to be able to use all the editing and authoring tools. What should I do to achieve this ?
    1) Use the scart recorder output ? But how ? Convert the Scart to another cable, then input it in some sort of TV card in my computer ? But what sort ? I do not know what sort of data my "decoder" sends to the "recorder". Anybody knows this ?
    2) Start directly from the cable (I do not know if my provider allows this, but this is a technical question) and input the signal in a DVB-C card ?
    3) Any other mean ?

  2. If that's for the cable then yes you need a dvb-c card.I don't know about the brand but something from twinhan or terratec might be the best option.

I myself have a dvb-s card (satellite, pinnacle) and it work flawlessly

If you plan to subscribe to canal+ or something you will need a card with a CI and also buy a CAM the which you insert in the CI.

If you wanna output the signal directly through the scart you will need an analog card with, preferably, a s-video input and your decoder must support this norm aswell.

I do not recommend the latter indeed but it's true that's it's cheaper to go that route.

    Thank you for answering.
Of course I definitely want to keep the digital video, but the problem is with my provider (Numericable). I pay a monthly fee and have a card to put in the decoder. I do not know if this card is a CI card or is proprietary. How can I know ?
And if I feed the cable in a DVB-C card how can I feed also my TV set ?
