I have been looking for a DivX/XviD player for a while, I have not been impressed with the non-branded (tried KISS 1000 and kept freezing and crashing) and the branded normally don't player XviD.
Anyway I noticed the new Philips 5100/05 has very good specifications.
XviD
DivX 3.11, 4.x and 5.x
GMC & Qpel
Now the Specs vary slightly between the pdf datasheet to the manual, the datasheet says DivX and XviD and the manual says DivX and Mpeg 4. The manual also says GMC and Qpel for DivX.
Another odd thing is the player plays DVD +R[RW] & -R[RW] but the manual says it plays Mpeg 4 on CD-R[RW] and DivX on DVD+R[RW] specifically for some reason.
Anyway has anyone tried this?
My Questions
1. Does XviD on DVD-R play OK
2. Does AC-3 sound work with DivX and XviD?
Thanks
Neil

Answers to your ?'s
1.Xvid support on DVD-R is great. Plays anything and everything.
2.AC-3 in Divx and XVID has been supported since the DVP642/17. Well actually it's always been supported -
Another question:
How does the DVP5100/05 output widescreen 16:9 DivX / XviD movies?
I have read several posts about the 630 / 642 player making DivX/XviD all movies 4:3 letterbox regardless of the player settings.
