Narrowed my entire problem posted earlier into one possible culprit:

    svideo

    Here's my logic:

    I'm capturing VHS.

    I have two capture devices:
    A dazzle capture box
Capture Card included in Vaio VGC-RB38G (it's been determined that this is not the Radeon X300 that's doing the capturing, so it's either the SMRT Card that Studio picks up, a Gigapocket taht I can't find any evidence of my computer having, or the Legacy Capture Device listed in the Device Manager)

Both cards will capture Composite video- Studio will only get it from the Dazzle box, but ClicktoDVD seems to be pulling it off the "mysterious" capture card inside the computer.

BUT- both devices will ONLY capture from composite. I have checked the svideo input box whereever possible, but nothing seems to recognize the svideo input- only composite.

oy vey. I have replaced the svideo cable, and now I have replaced the vcr and still the same thing- no svideo capture. (both of these items will now be going back to the store).

    ideas? suggestions? anyone?

VHS decks don't support S-Video. S-VHS VCR's usually have S-Video i/o and they can be used for VHS tapes as well.

was leaning towards this theory as I noticed the svideo had a label above it that said for dvd only. So, I tried capturing from DVD and go figure, it works through svideo.

So I need a SVHS player?? I can handle that.

Next question- which I've been researching but man if you all aren't filled with a variety of solutions so I just end up confused. . . .

I need to get these files into Adobe Premiere from editing, but of course Click to DVD has some obscure file type that noone else will open. Studio can't capture from the SMRT Card (probably nothing can but C2DVD right?)

Potential solution is to ignore the installed capture card and use dazzle device, but I fear the cheapness of this tool. Anyone have a way around this problem so I can get my files into Premiere?

You have something called a Giga Pocket TV Tuner. Seems to be a card unique to Sony home theater PC. Try to find a Sony forum for best advice.
