compression ratio is at 73.7%, is that compressing the movie too much that it will look like garbage when burnt?

  2. I have DVD's that have been compressed down to as low as 60-65% and in my opinion the image quality is still acceptable,
I've done a bit of testing with my system and I find it quite difficult to notice any concernable difference from the original.

I'm very fussy about picture quality and I do have a fairly large TV (36") and I am quite happy with the quality I get from shrink.

Many people swear by DVDrebuilder but I've read mixed reviews about it, I guess the only way you'll know for sure is to write it to DVD/RW first as a test and see if you are happy with it, after all you are the one who will be watching it.

PS: I'm sure other people will tell you that it's too much compression, but as I said you should try it for yourself, nobody can really give you a right or wrong answer !

  3. This Question is asked here over and over again, and along with the "what is the best" one is pretty pointless. No one can make that decision for you, test it on your equipment and see what you think. Everybody will have a different opinion, everyone has different standards.
I have compressed somethings to 55% and been happy and others I have pitched. It also depends on the quality of the source, which varies.

  4. Why not get couple of rw discs and try it? If you don't like the result, erase it and nothing is lost.

  5. The film is naturally grainy because of the genre and the year it was released. The newest version of Shrink did an excellent job on it. Can not really distinguish the results from DVD-rb and much faster.

I did my version of Excalibur using the previous version of shrink and was not very happy at all. Unless it has been re-released, it was a pretty average transfer to begin with, and the grain and smoke play havoc with the encoder. I may try again some day, perhaps.
