I have a bunch of anime that I wish to put on a VCD so I can view them on a standalone DVD player. Thing is, they're all in .mkv format, so I used mkvmergeGUI to convert them to mpeg.

However, when I tried to burn them, I got this message (sorry for the small size):

Now I'm thinking I didn't convert it correctly.

The only thing I did was change the output filename from .mkv to .mpg. I'm guessing this isn't the way to convert correctly. Can someone tell me some directions as to how to convert correctly? I'm still new at this so try to keep it simple. >_<

    Thanx

  2. Changing the extension wont work. Just demux your steams you want, then take your .avi (which in your case is XviD) and encode it to mpeg with tmpegenc. Your gonna have to convert your ogg audio to vcd compliant also ( use something like BeLight ). Remultiplex with tmpegenc and burn your vcd.

BTW, you can't put subtitles into vcd, can you?

    Ok.

Can someone guide me through the conversion process ? I checked out the link, and it didn't help much. Sorry, but I'm still a n00b at this.

  6. Elaborate, more info needed. What conversion? xvid to vcd?, ogg to mp2?.

    Baldricks TMPEGEnc guide: https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

p.s.- Use this tool to extract (demultiplex) your mkv: MKVExtractGUI

    xvid to vcd.

I'll try using TMPGEnc before asking for more help, but do I need to do anything to the .mkv before converting? The files have 2 audio sets, and 2 subtitles.

  8. ive done this alot this is how you can do it
First what you need to do is take your .mkv file. use a program called MKVExtractGUI or similar, extract the AVI both audio tracks and the subtitles from the file. then load the avi into tmpgec load the avi into it. convert your audio file into a mp3 DBPoweramp will work easyest. though you can only have the english track. having both tracks will not work.

then take the finished audio file load that up in tmpgec with the avi and convert it.

mkvextract will not take a mkv and convert it to mpg directly. ive had luck using it to take a avi add a mp3 audio and save directly to avi. from there you could take tmpgec and convert the avi to mpg

    i hope this helps

For VCD you need mp2, not mp3 audio. Encoding to mp3 and then re-encoding to mp2 just adds another lossy stage.

TMPGEnc should be able to convert the mkv file directly via dshow.

These files I'm trying to convert have s_Vobsub files so MKVExtractGUI ignores them so I can't do anything. >_<

Is there anyway to get around this?

  12. Try using VirtualdubMod for demuxing then and see if that works.

Still doesn't work. Don't think it supports Vobsubs either...

Whast version of MKVExtract and MKVExtractGUI? Pretty sure that mkvextract has supported vobsubs for sometime now, although earlier versions did not.

I can extract idx/sub from mkv.
Make sure you use latest version of MKVtoolnix and MKVExtractGUI and extract all MKVExtractGUI's files into the folder you installed MKVtoolnix.

    Mkvtoolnix Windows installer v1.4.2

Maybe you are missing the required plugins, as it should be able to do it. Is this just a standard ogg vorbis file or something else though?

Also your post really has nothing to do with this thread. mkv-->VCD vs. ogg-->mp2.

Yes, I know. I used MKVExtract to extract the video and audio from my .mkv but the audio is in ogg and I need it to be mp2 for TMPgenc.

Are there other programs that convert oggs to mp2s besides dbpoweramp?

    Perfect, I got it!

Just one thing, how do I make it so that the picture fills up the screen? When I play it on my DVD player, it doesn't fill the screen.
