I have a great (legally downloaded) one-hour .avi file that I would like to put onto a DVD (via DVDSP2). All that I have done so far has failed (after taking enormous amounts of time):
• importing directly into DVDSP2 or FCP4
• capturing .avi movie using SnapzPro to create a QT .mov file and then importing and rendering in FCP4 (rendered piece is only about half-screen)
• ad infinitum/nauseum
Is there a relatively simple, straightforward and inexpensive way to convert an .avi file into something I can put onto a DVD to watch on my TV? Thanks for the help.

There is a tutorial in the tutorials section (at the top of the forum) called DIVX to DVD that will show you how. The most popular form of downloadable avi is some form of divx/mpeg-4 video, but unless you knew that you might not know that that is the correct tutorial for you. If you have some other codec then get back on the forum and tell us what is happening. Some folks will tell you to just drag it onto Roxio Toast's Video tab, and others will tell you to use ffmpeg. Both have their good and bad points, but we'll save that debate for another time.
