I'm using TMPGEnc version 2.02 (actually tried several versions) and I'm having problems with video.

Encoding starts ok, but after 2 mins video stops encoding but audio keeps going. TMPGEnc converts the file till the end but 2 min video+audio and rest of it only with audio.

I have been able to encode avi file eralier, but now after some time when I was using TMPGEnc it is not working anymore.

I have been trying to change the environment settings (VFAPI priority), but no change.

I'm really out of ideas. Does anybody has one?

    My computer:
    Win98
    Athlon 1 GHz
    256 RAM
    two IDE hard drives
AVI file has been captured with Pinnacle DC10+ and converted with PIC video.

I'm have total 6 avi files and the problem is the same. Files are captured with Pinnacle DC10+ and converted to avi with PIC video. Capturing bitrate was 6000 kb/s

I'm trying to convert to mpeg-2 (SVCD PAL). Constant bitrate 2520 video (tried several other bitrates and tried also with VBR) and 224 audio. Total lenght of individual avi file about 6-7 mins and size 3-4 Gb.

  5. each of your file sizes are 3-4 gb?
    That doesnt sound right.
If they were that big for a win98 OS which has FAT32 compression, it would not allow a user in any way to import a file no larger than 2 gb in tmpgenc.

Also why are you trying to convert it to pal?
u can still use pal res but pal fps may be retarded.
Some dvd players can handle playing the 23.967 or 25 fps but some cant adjust and will make audio skip and go WAY outta sync

    sean madison,

Yes, all my avi files are about 3-4 Gb (each about 7 mins long). I have been converting this big files with Win98 earlier with no problem (Fat32 has a 4 Gb size limit), but for some reason this no video problem appeared just now.

First I was thinking that the file is corrupted, but when the same problem occurred with other files (I have 6 of them) that wasn't the case.

The reason why I use PAL is that I have captured my footage from a PAL source with 25 fps and 6000 kb/s.

I would be trying a different encoder, but I have only found one free MPEG-2 encoder: TMPGEnc. Others like CCE and LSX cost money and their trials can only handle 60 s. There's no way of knowing if they can handle complete file (= wasting your money if they have the same problem).

I guess that I have to settle for video tape output and forget the SVCD with this footage, if this problem cannot be solved. Maybe the next footage I capture will work!?

Have you changed anything on you puter since you had sucess diong these, i.e., added programs, hardware, etc. were you using this version of tmpenc before. In other words, what has changed on your computer. something has to be interupting the encoding process.

you could also try using toolame as you audio encoder when using tmpenc, that will take some of the stress off of tmpenc and it will basically just have to do the video, and your audio will come out better. In fact, you could try to just encode the video using tmpenc as a test to see if it can actaully do all the video.

I tried toolame as audio encoder and the same thing happened: everything went ok for 1 min and 47s and then video disappeared, but audio was ok.

I have added some programs but no hardware since the time everything went ok and the TMPGEnc version was 2.0. I was forced to change the TMPGEnc version due to the MPEG-2 expiration. It is possible that one of the other programs interfere TMPGEnc. I just need to start investigate it program by program...

You could try this. Reboot and then go to your task list and kill any process that you are certain is not required to keep your PC operating. Basically when you encode, have ONLY the encoder running. That may help. I had some odd things happen to my encodes but if I keep the system clean when encoding, they seem to go away.
