  1. i've got a DVD-R i want to make a copy of.
when i try to save it to hard drive it gets to about 98% of the way and cyclic redundancy check error appears.
i'm almost certain this is coz of scratch on disc but have cleaned it and same error.
i tried using dvd decrypter just to get it on hard drive and checked ignore errors. it's been running for an hour now and just keep getting "failed to read sector" error.
i can play DVD and it only stops about a min early.
is there a way to get this on hard drive and burn it?
i'm not worried about missing last min.

Definitely a fault on the disk. That error is almost universally tied to a disk fault, dirt /scratches visible or invisible. If multiple rippers fail at the same spot then you can be pretty sure it is the disk. Since it is a DVD-R I have to ask if you have access to the original. The probable answer is that you do not. If you did, that would solve the problem. You could try one of those disk cleaners but obviously at your own risk. You might also experiment with some of the "Brute Force / Error Ignoring " setrtings in Decrypter. I know you already tried some but there are many. If you do not care about the last 2% then you could always accept the ripped files up to that point.
You also use an app that will rip directly to AVI uncpompressed or to MPG2 and re-edit and awthor your resulting file. It will lack thte last 2% or course.

If this is simply a movie, then you can always just obtain another copy of it and re do the backup.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

  3. Agree w/ jtoolman- deep scratches just won't rip if they play at all.

i still had to abort and then save files but when i used dvd decrypter without new settings it seemed to cut off last VOB completely.
it works up to point of original DVD-R so i'm happy enough.[/url]

If it gets to 98%, I'd be pretty confident that it may even be a fingerprint on the edge of the disc. If cleaning the disc, make sure you clean the very outer edge. Try different software. Try different DVD drives to rip also.
    If in doubt, Google it.
