  1. I'm got some divx-avi files that have MPEG Layer 3 audio.
If TMPGEnc doesn't do MPEG Layer 3 audio, what can I do to convert avi to MPEG2? Can I uncompress the audio with something like avi2vcd decompressor first, then use TMPGEnc to convert the new *_PCI.AVi file?

TMPGenc can convert mp3 but it doesnt do a good job of it and it often causes it to crash.

Get virtual dub (tools section.) Load your divx file into it and select file\save wav. In TMPGenc use your avi for your video source and the wav for the audio source. You can either encode at the same time or separately and multiplex in the end.

  3. Thanks, Adam. Is TMPGEnc going to automatically SYNC the video and audio when I use seperate video and audio sources (avi for video, VDub for wav audio file created from the avi)?

yup, as long as you have a good video source, if you have to many droped frames or video drop outs,( a bunch of collored squares appear during the movie), you will have major sync errors, you have to cut any bad parts out of the avi first, when it is perfect, then strip the audio and encode.
