I know basically what an ISO is. But what are the advantages of using ISO images versus using the normal vob files that you rip or encode or whatever? I dont really know how to word my question, I hope you understand what I am asking.

Advantages are no files go missing or corrupt and more burning programs recognize iso.

  4. ISO is an exact copy of the entire contents of the disc. Ripping the contents of a disc any other way, in file mode for example, "may or may not be".

They arent exact copies but close to it,they do keep the directory and attribute structure intact so there is less chance of burning a dvd out of spec.Game iso are much harder to do since copy protection changes the stucture and attribute when being burned without special care.
