I was just wondering if this is possible. I have both Analog Cable and Digital Satellite. Is is possible to connect the source for Analog cable and the satellite dish output with a splitter/combiner into a single coax cable then at the end of the coax cable have another splitter with one end connected to the Satellite box and another connected to the cable input on the tv.

    Code:
    Cable source-\ /---TV
                |-splitter/combiner---------splitter-|
    Sat. dish---- / \---Sat. decoder

Is this at all possible, sort of like how both Cable internet and Analog TV cable can use the same cable? Or would the satellite signals cause interference with the analog cable signal or vice versa.

Certainly you should be able to run them over the same coax if they are different frequencies, but that is no guarantee that they won't interfere.

You will also have a loss through the splitters, both in and out. I'm assuming the coax impedance would be matched to both sources, along with the splitters.

I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you have no other options. A extra piece of coax is a lot cheaper and easier. If your system is set up wrong, you could push the satellite signal back into the cable system, which may upset your cable supplier.

I don't quite understand what you are up to. But I think that you could put your cable out to your sat box ant in or vice versa and have the option of either one coming out at the TV. I wouldn't think that a Spliter on the far end would be able to distinguish between the signal between sat or cable and be able to send it to different TVs at the same time if that is what you want
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Well right now the source for cable is right next to my satellite dish and I only have a single coax wire running to my living room which is pretty far away from the dish, so adding another coax cable would be a costly job. I don't have cable in the living room, only satellite, but that's what I'm trying to accomplish.

I've done some research and It seems what I want to do is possible but it would require diplexers not splitters.

  5. hi,
your right you need satellite diplexers to combine satellite and cable signal then another diplexer at the end to split the two signals...Terk makes good satellite diplexers check out thier site.

    edit.
