I just bought a dvd burner last week and I tried to burn some videos that I had saved on my hard drive to dvd. The dvd burner came with the Nero software, so I figured it would be easy. Everything seemed to be going smooth until the very end. When I pressed "burn", it seemed as if it was going ok and then I got an error. On my second attempt I got a recording aborted message. I was wondering if I was supposed to save the videos under a certain catagory before burning them to dvd? Sorry for the stupid question, like I said this was my first attempt at burning to dvd. Thanks in advance.

    Hi tecmobo34,

    Welcome to the forums.

What were the videos (AVIs, MPGs etc.)?
    What version of Nero?

I presume you want to burn them as videos on the DVD, rather than storing the video files as data on the DVD.

Download GSpot (beta v2.52 - it's free) and get details on each of the video files. Post screen prints here... That'll allow people to comment on how to achieve what you want.

I've never used Nero to create a DVD, just to burn one. The video has to DVD compliant (See 'What is DVD to the left. <<<.) Then it needs to be authored (Converted to VOBs, BUPs and IFO files, again <<<) Then I take the authored files and drop them into a VIDEO_TS folder (DVD-Video selected) in the Nero program and burn.

I use a DVD compliant MPEG-2 video file, usually with MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio because it's easy. Then I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author the file before using Nero to burn. TMPGEnc DA is available as a trial.

BTW, Nero can fail to burn for a variety of reasons. It could be the media or the software (Such as Nero) you are using or the video file itself may be messed up.

It's not clear what you want to do: Just write the video files as data to a DVD, or create a Video DVD?
In the first case, even Nero should be able to do that. In the latter case, Nero shouldn't be used at all. Depending on what kind of video files you have, they have to be processed and converted to a DVD compliant format, then authored as Video DVD. There are guides (under Convert left) for converting most video formats to DVD compatible mpeg2.

Sounds good guys! Thanks again for the helpful advice. I should have stated that I was trying to make a video dvd in my original post. I can't wait to give it another shot tonight when I get out of work. Again, thanks to all in here for their help.
