  1. i applied a filter to an avi on virtualdub, then saved it as avi using same codec. XVID Mpeg-4.
however the output file is about a third smaller than source.
this is my first time using virtualdub so i'm a bit of a newbie with it.
    any suggestions?

The codec was probably at the default settings while the original video was done at higher quality settings would be my guess, with all other things being equal.

is there an easy way or do u just have to choose from video> compression, select video compression

In my version, there is a 'Target Quantizer' calculator. It's a bitrate calculator. You could set that to the size of the original file.

The most important part; Is the finished video as good a quality as the original? If not, you would want to tweak the codec. Also you can go to http://www.xvid.org/ for information.

I admit I usually set the codec at default as the XVID's I filter are generally poor quality and end up being larger. The end size could also be influenced by the filtering, depending on what you are doing.

I think the Doom9 site may have some good info on XVID, also.
