  1. im using a mpeg i downloaded for as part of a documentary for school, but the quality isnt great when viewed in full screen.

ive converted to avi via virtual dub so i can edit it in premier.

is there anyway to improve the quality of the mpeg and hide the damage caused by the compression?

  3. is there not a program that can add new colors to the mpeg based on those around it so it looks less smudged?

How does the mpeg compare to the avi? What type of avi did you choose? ie what compression type, resolution etc.? If the avi is not as good as the mpeg then your conversion process needs to be adjusted. Vdub has filters available so that you can adjust colour, sharpness and noise etc. These would be applied when you convert from mpeg to avi.
