Import XVID Files Into Vegas

Whenever I try to bring in a DIVX or XVID file into Vegas 5.0, it usually says "stream attributed cannot be determined". If I play around with the fourCC codes as described here, I can usually get the video to be recognized, but not the audio. The common charateristic of files it can't recognize is that they all have AC-3 audio. I have AC-3 Filter installed, but is there anything else I need to do in Vegas to regognize an XVID or DIVX with AC-3 audio?

Vegas will only Render AC3 not import it.

Thanks. I'll try extracting a wav from Vdub and go from there.
