  1. ive been having this problem for some time now and cant seem to get around it, so i decided to turn to the professionals

it seems that most of the dvd's i burn turn out ok. during playback they are good for 96% of the movie. nearly every single movie errors, skips and freezes at the very end. somehow i beleive it has something to do with the finalizing process. even when it appears to have burned properly.

also, when burning a previously burned dvd, i get read errors at the very end, which tells me that where the skipping and freezing begins, is obviously where the read errors are.

im using prodisc blank dvd's and a liteon burner in an hp machine. for software i get the same results in all dvd shrink, dvd xcopy pro, dvd decrypter, nero etc....

    thanks for any advice.

First check if you have enable DMA set on for your IDE devices. Everytime I have a major problem, it is because of the DMA setting. I only have problems with 1 disk out of every 50 or so burns when this setting is correct.

Open MyComputer - Hardware - Hardware wizard - IDE controllers (for each one) - advanced (I think) - Set DMA if available.

You may need to do this every once in a while, because this setting can get changed.

There is an instruction created for this somewhere in videohelp.com, perhaps someone can point you to it.

  9. i found the instruction on dma by searching the site. according to everything i see, im set properly. everything reads "dma enabled if possible"

  11. im not doubting anyone's recommendations, but it does seem that everyone is very quick to state the cause of most problems as being a media issue.

ive been thru several types and have always come up with the same results. i seem to be following everyones advice to a "t" with no avail.

its frustrating. i burn a movie and every movie haults freezes or fails at the very end. for example, the movie "saw" froze right when the bad guy was closing the door on the guy chained to the pipe in that bathroom. i wasnt able to hear or see what the bad guy said........

    lol

Are you encoding/shrinking films to fit 100% of the available space on a DVDr?

Does this problem occur when a smaller (say under 4gig filesize) movie is burnt to DVD?

Does this problem occur when a longer movie (and therefore a lower bitrate) is burn to DVDr?

  13. i have been using dvd shrink with a target file size of 4500.

to be honest, i have not burned anything that is smaller than a full length movie.

i have never checked anything like bitrage etc....as dvd shrink generally uses default settings.

i will investage further into the bitrate situation on my next burn. (which im going to do now)

A target size of 4500mb? Doesnt DVDSHRINK use 4464mb as the max for 4.7g DVDr's? If you are using 4500mb you really are pushing your luck of EVER getting a disk to burn correctly.

What I do is set a custom size of 4300mb to avoid the 'iffy' outer edge of DVDr media and 'KILL' any unwanted 'extra's' (make stills..kill unwanted audio etc) or Re-auther and crop the end credits.

Experience will tell you that if any problems ARE going to occur with DVDr media 95% of the time it will be at the outer edge of the disk (the last 5%) where dye thinning is pretty common...except maybe for some REALLY REALLY shite media which will be just PLAIN SHITE throughout.

    HTH
