The long version is that I need the cut out some scenes and the output file need to be 720x576 and in MPG format. I will later assemble them with a proper DVD autoring software for a quiz Im making.

I seem to bump into trouble using Tmpgenc and DVD ripper. When I read the guides on this site they all seem so simple. I wish someone would write a guide that said "Its not easy at all. There are about a milion things that can go wrong, you have been warned" Im getting frustrated with the guides never mention the failures and erors I get when following their easy instructions. I even have a university degree in computer science so I know that not all the blame rests on me.

    Thank you all in advance

    /k

    Rip with DVDDecrypter to HDD
    Load VOBs in ReJig.
Demux m2v and selected audio track.
Multiplex back m2v + audio track with TMPGEnc.
(or just author m2v + audio track to new DVD)

DVDx just does it. DVD to .avi, mpeg1 or mpeg2.

Sounds like you have basic computer problems with your OS. The guides couldn't be any simplier. Anything in life has its challenges and it seems you are not quite ready for this challenge. Sorry but your post utters what many of us faced starting out in this hobby. You have to do the research just like in college and spend the bucks for the proper software that will give you the results you want.

  5. Kevlin, I would suggest that you rethink whether you want to do this in MPEG compressed format. MPEG video is not normally an editable format, since each frame depends on the surrounding frames. There are some programs claiming to be MPEG editors out there, but whether they will create good quality output that meets all the bitrate requirements for a new DVD is another question.

Instead, I would suggest that you consider decoding the video/audio out to some high-quality editable format such as DV. Then you can use a normal editing program and do things the right way.

As far as how to get the video and audio extracted and decoded, you can use a series of freeware tools, or you can use a single commercial tool such as Cinematize.

To do it with freeware, you would first rip the chapter that includes the portion you want as a muxed MPG, then demux that into MPEG video and AC3 audio, then decode the video and audio, then import those into your editing program and try to sync them up.

    Thank you everyone for answering.

I have worked with VCD and SVCD before creating my quizes but since I have a new computer with a DVD burner I thought I would step it up a notch. Thats why I got stuck on MPGs. In Tempgenc I can get the 720x576 output file that works great together with the autoring software I have borrowed (sony DVD architect) since that is the high res DVD format.

If there is another way out I would gladly take it since all I really care about is the final result not the way there.

I'll check out Cinematize and the other tools you all mentioned.

I have Rejigged the VOBs now to that I have one .M2V and one .AC3 file. When I try to load them into into Temgenc they are unsuported.

Not sure what I do wrong though.

TMPGEnc -> Mpeg tools -> Simple multiplex
Not load them as A/V sources for encoding (TMPGEnc can't decode neither m2v nor AC3 natively).
You could also multiplex with mplex.

heh...an easy way to do this would be...rip with DVD decrypter, load the DVD file into TMPG DVD Author, select copy the video to the hard drive. Then cancel after copying is done. poof, you have the .mpg.
