My HP laptop came with WinDVD and i want to put it on my desktop but when i go to install it, it comes back saying its not a qualified HP machine. Any way around this?

If you mean you want to install it on a different computer, then no, probably not. It is likely set up for OEM installation only. Many programs that come bundled with computers and DVD drives will only work with the particular drive or machine that it was configured for.
Get a retail copy if you want to put it on a different machine. -

Yep hard to do if it is possible. Just easier to buy a legit standalone copy of the player software.
OR try ebay for a used copy - or get an older version discounted at Best Buy or Circuit City....

I don't think anything's really 'free' because there are royalties to be paid.

For free, you can try VLC Media Player. Very versatile. But if you want a program that is optimized for easy DVD play, either PowerDVD or WinDVD are good. But they are payware.

I would prefer PowerDVD. However, another freeware would be zoom player.
