Burner only burning at 2x

hello, im having a problem i hope some people can help me with. recently when i burn using 4x Maxell DVD-R on my DRU-500A it would only burn at 2x. I burned with these at 4x in the past , its is very strange. i've been burning with the latest DVDecyrpter. Havent had a chance to test it with RecornNow Max yet. But i doubt its just DVDecyrpter. I upgraded to the latest firmware and still the same thing. Anyone got any ideas what it may be?

Check to see if your burner is still on DMA.

Could also be the IDE cables are bad for what ever reason.

Getting a 500a to do anything more than 2x requires a miracle and there are a few posts on this.

Try the media, driver topics on left column.

Maxell dvd-r, X4 media has been made by at least three different suppliers including Ritek and Taiyo Yuden. Is it possible the new disks are not from the same source?

Well DMA is on for all my drives , so its not that. The Maxells im using have the MXL media code, and ive burned discs at 4x from this verysame batch, so its not an issue with a different set of discs either. i doubt it would be the IDE cables as i would probably have problems burning at 2x as well and get errors.

Maybe your hard drive is too full or even fragmented? Could even have too many programs running in the background. Could be anything since you don't provide any computer details.
