  1. Hello,

Considering I'm an absolute idiot regarding computers I have this question: When you purchase a new/replacement/external DVD burner, and the specs come out as being "Windoze X/P, etc". What is a Mac person to do with this hardware? Can it/they still be used with a Mac? I've been hesitant for quite some time, and have never really gotten an answer to this question.

    My thanks,

    Drake

Stick it in a firewire box and enjoy.

I've had a number of burners that only claimed XP support, but once I stuck it in a Firewire box, worked perfectly.

Just give it a try. If it works, keep it, if not, return it and try the next one in line.

Anymore, the Windows statement on the box just means the bundled software is Windows-only. However, there are some drives that are better supported in Macs than other drives. You can read user reports for specific drives at the drive compatibility database at http://xlr8yourmac.com.

If you're considering a DL drive, I've read that the NEC and Pioneer models are performing better than the Sony.

    Right

I bought a Pioneer 108 which has windows plastered all over it. Like TGPO said it just means it comes with windows crap software.

Slap it in, or put it in an enclosure, and watch the magic of a mac occur

You may need to run PatchBurn3 to get iApp support but it will work

    Happy burner shopping
