I copy shows using my tuner, and then encode them to a dvd standalone playable format to play on my dvd player. What's the best way to fit as many episodes of a show on ONE dvd? The best way i know of right now is to make them vcds...

Hello,
That is one good way. Another would be to make them into divx then you can squeeze even more. Depending on whether or not your stand alone plays divx of course.
Or use halfd1 and chop the bitrate way down you might be able to fit six hours or so on the disc. But quality will suffer. With media so cheap these days (for single layer) why suffer??? Just put less on per disc and preserve the quality as much as you can. You could get a dvd disc changer if it bugs you a lot to switch discs
