  1. Hello:

I'm trying to make a back-up copy of some movies I have because they are getting a little old and worn. There is no playback problems when playing the disks but they have read errors when I try to copy them using Xcopy or Dvd Decryptor. I tried using the Xcopy DVD Repair tool, but it encounters the same read errors. What is interesting is that it encounters the read error on the same file on each disk VOB 1_3 or something to that effect. From what I can tell there are scratches on the disk, but nothing serious, and again there are no playback issues and the Xcopy repair tool was able to copy another movie that was more damaged. Can anyone help me?

  5. If you go to the ISbuster site you will find all the info you need.

It will try to skip the Errors , Just try to Pull the VIDEO_TS file off the DVD , it may take awhile,If you can try it on a DVD-rom Drive and not your Burner,Because it can put alot of strain on the Burner ,I had a DVD that Took over 12 hours but I did get everything,But like I said try to use a ROM Drive,I wouldnt want to see you damage you Burner.

  6. I am using my rom drive to do this, for the very reason that I dont want to replace my burner again. How do I extract just the vob files like you suggest? As well the program locks up after a while of tryint to get the same file

  7. okay, i got the program to extract vob files but i am still encountering lockups after errors. It will continue past the errors and the files will still move in the graphics, but after some time they lock. As well I have minimized my use as much as possible on my comp while this is goin on, but how much does this program really need to run effectively? I have:

    an athlon 2500XP
    1GB Ram, 2 hd (160GB storage 40GB windows and programs), 1 DVD-ROM 1 DVD-RW
I am runnin Win XP Pro

  8. one more thing...on the DVD that I was able to extract using the Xcopy repair tool, I had to use compression to fit it on one DVD, roughly 30% compression. When i play the dvd the quality is off noticeably. I was wondering if this was due to the compression used, or if it was a resut of the errors while tryin to recover and burn the disk. If i skip a file when decrypting or making a backup what am I actually skipping? What part of the dvd video is contained in the 4 main vob files?

Compressing or "transcoding" removes data from the GOP,compressing >20% will usually decrease the video quality.
Skipping a file when reading will usually leave a glitch or blank spot in the video.
VOB(Video OBjects) files are multiplexed video and audio, the reason they are .99GB is from the old 16bit(FAT16/OS7) days when that's the largest Win95 or Mac could handle.

  10. ok so the quality loss was from the compression, why is it that I can't see any blank spots in the movies though? Or are these blanks jus miliseconds? I also examined the bottom of the disk and it does not appear as though the full disk was used, y was this? the compression was set to reduce the disk just low enough to fit on a 4.7GB dvd, any idea why this is?
