Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I've scoured the internet
and have had no luck in answering this question.
I typically make backup copies of my kids DVDs because they get ruined
so quickly. While on our drive to my inlaws over the holidays two of my
kids movies were scratched beyond salvation. I luckily made backups of
these movies but need to make a backup of those backups. These kids
will watch the same movie over and over again and I've spent so much
money on replacing movies in the past. If you have kids, you know
exactly what I'm talking about. When you're in the van the movies just
get tossed around like frisbies. Anyways....I thought I would be able to
just make a backup of the backup the way I made the original copy, but
that didn't work. I also tried copying the contents of the DVD to my hard drive
then burning those to a new DVD and that didn't work. So if anyone out
there knows how to do this, please let me know.
Thank You
David

If you are trying to make a backup of a backup, because the original's were damaged,
the backup's, if functional, should already have any copy protection removed....
Depending on how the orignal's were backed up.... but you really never said how they were backed up or IF they were tested and worked.....
How and what program did you back the original's up with ??
What media did you use to back them up with ??
Did you ever test the backup's to see if they worked alright ??
Maybe you used cheap inferior media that are loaded with read error's....
Ect ect ect.........
DVD Decrypter
ISO read
ISO write
Done... PERIOD!!!!!!!!!
IF you had good working backup's to begin with....
I'm seeing a lot of writing but not really saying much -
I used 1ClickDVD Copy to make my backups.
Yes, they work fine. They'll be destroyed by the
kids within a month so I need to make another
copy of them.
The backups are on DVD-R Maxell -
MAXELL outsources their dvd media to the manufacturer called "RITEK" which is crappy media to use. Which is probably why you're getting read errors when trying to copy the files to your hard drive. Get some good quality dvd media like VERBATIM.

It's not that I'm getting errors. I just don't know how to make a backup of a backup. When I put the original backup in the dvd player, it plays just fine, but I've tried using 1clickdvd to copy the backup and it doesn't work. I've copied the files from the dvd to a folder on the desktop then tried copying those onto a blank dvd. It just doesn't play, but the files are on the new dvd. I'm going to try imgburn and see if that works.

Have you put a label on the DVD? That might influence it. The only DVD I have ever failed to copy had a label on it. Once the label was removed it worked as it should again.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. -
There are different ways. My way is to rip the DVD to hard drive with DVD Shrink. OK, it's already unprotected, so I guess that's not really "ripping", but that's what I do.
It's simple, fast, and it works. Then I always, always, always burn with Imgburn. If that doesn't work, then I would suspect either a DVD burner problem or a bad batch/brand of discs. You probably won't go wrong with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, at least that's what I use.
