  1. Hi,

I have a Panasonic DMR-E55 and it won't play burned image files. I tried several different types of media (+R, and -R). I get a "cannot play" message from the DVD player. Any idea why and how to get around this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you use good -R media (like MADE IN JAPAN type stuff, i.e. Taiyo Yuden or Maxell) then you should have no troubles.

It is either your media or the way you are burning etc.

Let me venture a guess here ... you are using NERO to burn your DVD discs? If so STOP THAT!!!

Use DVD Decrypter to burn instead.

If you need to make an ISO IMAGE file then use the classic version of ImgTools (must be the classic version!)

  3. Thanks for the advice.

You are correct I have been using Nero to burn my DVD's. It has worked fine for SVCD's but not DVD's. I am using Sony DVD -R and +R which work fine in my player for SVCD's but not DVD's.

I'll try burning with DVD decrypter. What is the latest version of Decrypter?

    Thanks again.

If you need to use ImgTools then get the classic version (version 0.91.4) and the newest version of DVD Decrypter is version 3.5.2.0

    P.S.
Post here if burning that way makes a difference.

  5. HI again,

DVD decrypter is asking me to "format" the DVD. Nero never asked me to do this. How do i format?

    Thanks.

It doesn't ask you to format if you are using a DVD-R disc.

    I only use DVD-R discs.

Apparently you are using something else.

So I cannot help you there.

Those are RW disks, no wonder they don't play on your panny.

  8. Nope they are sony -R disks. I don't have any DVD RW's.

    strange...

  9. I used another disk and the format error went away. I think the first disk was damaged.

Anyway....I get the same message from my player "cannot play" with the sony DVD-R disk. Perhaps I should try another brand??

    Try Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs.

Any FUJI package of DVD-R discs that says, "MADE IN JAPAN" is Taiyo Yuden. You can also buy Taiyo Yuden on-line at RIMA.COM which is almost always cheaper per disc (but you must buy a minimuim of a 50-pack but this is only $25.00 plus shipping).

You can also buy Maxell DVD-R discs but again look for the packages that say "MADE IN JAPAN" although it is MUCH easier to find Maxell DVD-R packs that say this than it is to find FUJI DVD-R packs that say this.

Those two (Taiyo Yuden and Maxell MIJ) are generally regarded as the best DVD-R media around.

Might be a good idea to fill out your computer specs especially what computer DVD burner you have.

My point about the media is this ... use the best there is thus eliminating media as a possible problem in this instance.

Hopefully that is the only problem here but if there is another issue you can at least rule out media being the problem by using top grade stuff.

    P.S.
Also continue using ImgTools classic for creating ISO IMAGE files and DVD Decrypter for burning. Hard to go wrong (nearly impossible) with that combo. This way you are also eliminating the burning process from the possible causes of problems.

I put my computer information into my profile. When you have a chance take a look and let me know if you see any possible issues there.

    Thanks again for your time!

  14. I have a Panasonic DMR-E55, a fine machine BTW. I use all sorts of media, from the cheapest to the expensive, with no problems. I use either Tmpgenc DVD author or Nero 6.3.1.17. I suspect that its either the way you are burning, or even a problem with E55 itself...

I am starting to think my problem could be my DVD burner. I have a Sony DRU-530A with the 2.1C firmware.

I see you are using a NEC DVD burner. The difference in DVD drives could be the difference....

While I am on the subject, what is the best DVD burner on the market today?
