    Hi!

A friend of mine has a JVC GR-D33UB, digital cam. THis cam has Firewire, S-Video and A/V output.

However, her computer doesn't have firewire port.

How can she connect? I guess I could buy a PCI board with firewire ports. But I talked to JVC support, but they told it wouldn't work, and that I should buy a capture board (just like a Pinnacle's). I thought it strange.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

Sounds like JVC support don't know what they are talking about. Buy a cheap PCI Firewire card and transfer using WinDV.

    Thanks Richard!

Does that REALLY work?? Even for a JVC?

Has anyone ever tested this kind of cam, to find out if it effectively works with a cheap PCI board with Firewire ports?

    Thanks again!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

  4. Yes. It will definitely work (even for a JVC). Please do not always believe the people in the support department. Usually they are novices.

My friend has a JVC GR-D73 but basically the technique is the same. As suggested you friend will need a 1394/Firewire card. She should get any cheap one such as from ADS, SiiG, etc. She will also need a 4-pin to 6-pin 1394/Firewire cable.
