For years, my computer has been doing great as far as connecting to my camcorder to capture the footage onto Movie Maker, and most recently, Sony Vegas 7. My computer recently had to be wiped, due to exceptionally large quantities of virus infections, and I reinstalled Sony Vegas.

For some reason, when I want to capture video, it says that the device isn't connected, when I clearly have everything set up like it's supposed to be. It's not just Sony Vegas, it's my computer in general that just isn't connecting to my camcorder.

    Can anyone help me out?!!!

    Thanks.

I'm guessing WinDV also doesn't work either? Do you get a 'ding' when the cable is connected? Do you see a 1394A device in your Device Manager? Have you tried a different cable or camcorder or tried that combination on another computer?

I know you think nothing else has changed, but something has. Windows has 1394A drivers in the OS, so it should detect something.

Is your 1394A on the motherboard, a sound card or a separate PCI card?

Sorry, lots of questions, but troubleshooting means eliminating everything that's not the problem until you only have a few possibilities left over. Then you work on them. Never make assumptions.

    And welcome to our forums.

I had this happen about 2 months ago, after all the troubleshooting it was a cable gone bad......

Basically, the ding I've always heard, when the device is connected, does not sound anymore. It could be a bad cable... which would be disappointing.

Did you also install DirectX 9? DV capture is done via DirectShow.

Also, IEEE-1394 port drivers need to be installed from your motherboard driver CD. Same goes for audio, USB and Ethernet port drivers.
