I'm frameserving Stargate (Director's Cut) to TMPGEnc Xpress with dgmpegdec, since TMPGEnc Xpress has some kind of problem seeing the correct length when loading VOBs on its own. I can't figure out how much to crop. I keep messing around and encoding a minute or 2 worth of movie to test, but the size doesn't seem quite right. I'm cutting equal amounts off all sides. The black bars are only like 60px, so I tried cutting off about 40px all around. Is that enough? Comparing in PowerDVD, it doesn't seem like it. I'd hate to not go far enough and waste a DVDR. I hate the black bars, but I haven't heard of anything that can do proper pan & scan. I'm still pissed Collateral didn't get a full screen release at all; even the goddamn VHS was widescreen.
