  1. I have a Dell 8300 which I haven't yet checked to see what kind of cables it has. I want to make sure I have 80pin cables since I'm upgrading my DVD Burner to a new pioneer model soon and I've heard I'll need 80pin cables to achieve max burning speed with it. Anyone know right off if this model already has 80pin cables? Also in case I do need to upgrade I'm going with a round cables so how do you tell which ones are 80 pin versus 40, since they don't put this info in the specs at newegg? I'm assuming I have to go by speed. Anything rated at True ATA 133 I'm assuming is 80 pin? Any brand recommendations for IDE cables?

  2. Your burner should come with the proper cable. Check the specs.

  3. I haven't ordered the burner yet and its an OEM so I doubt it'll have any cables with it. I'll have to look around and see if I can find the retail package for the new Pioneer 109 I think.

  4. good that's what I'll get then. Now I have to see what wattage the PSU is in the damn thing to tell if I can put in a second HDD while I'm at it. From what I've been hearing the 8300 PSU is only 250W though that isn't a peak rating like most PSUs use. I almost wish I'd never bought that last Dell. Next PC will be a custom job.

  5. finally got a chance to open it up and see. I believe I already have 80 wire cables, ribbon ones, but 80 wire regardless. They are finer wire than the floppy cable consists of. Unfortuanly I can't see the wattage on my PSU without taking the air duct out of the case. I'm pretty sure it has a 250 watt one though. Hopefully I won't have any issues moving my second hardrive from it's firewire enclosure to inside the case.

80 PIN Cables are only neccesary for transfer speeds in excess of Ultra ATA33 (Ultra DMA 2) , so any device using DMA Modes 4,5 or 6 (ATA66,100,133) will need an 80 PIN Cable .

  7. Which I'm assuming the new pioneer drive does. I've seen various posts about only being able to burn 12x with 40 wire cables. 80 wire is required for 16x speeds so it seems. At least I've discovered that my mobo has SATA connectors while digging around inside the PC
