I will try and explain what I want to do as easily as I can, so here it goes.
I have a main menu that I want to use a basketball as the hi-lite for the "play all" and the "scene selection". I want the basketball to look as if
it is jumping back and forth when the menus are selected. I import the basketball into DVDlab and put it on my menu, when I preview the menu, the basketball changes to the colors that are set "map" properties, and you can not tell it is a basketball, it just looks like a circle. Is there any way to keep the basketball the original color of the .png file, have it transparent, normally; 100% visable, selected; then change colors when activated? So the basketball looks as if is jumping between the "play all" and "scenes" on the menu.

No. Subpictures have a bit depth of 1. They are on or off. What you need to look at is the tutorial at Mediachance on switched menus. Basically, you need to create a Play All Menu and a Scenes Menu that are identical, except that one has the basketball next to Play All, the other has it next to Scenes. Use and auto-action to switch between the two. The tutorial explains it pretty well, and will allow you to do what you are trying to.
