Ever since I’ve gotten this burner for the last 6 months it won’t burn in DMA mode. PIO mode works fine but it’s slow. I’m thinking of getting a new burner.
A few things I should add:
-I’ve reinstalled windows several times since I’ve gotten the burner and that hasn’t helped.
-For some reason my bios won’t detect this burner as secondary master, I had to set it as secondary slave to get it recognized even though it’s the only drive on the secondary IDE channel.
-I had upgraded the firmware to 1.07.
-I doubt that this is causing it but I’m using a 40 pin IDE cable and I have tried switching between 40 pin IDE cables.
Do I just need a new burner or is there anything I can try?

try an 80 pin IDE. I recall hearing something not long ago about a Pioneer drive that had trouble if you didn't use an 80 pin cable.

Set the drive in DMA MODE. What operating system are you using? It would be helpful to fill in your computer details. Here's some links on HOW TO ENABLE DMA MODE.

It's a Nec. Sounds like you didn't set the jumper on it to master if its the only drive on that channel. Could be alot of things. delete it, restart computer, let it redetect, change mode again.
Btw, cheapo media can make you drive go to Pio mode.
