  1. I am confused as to what speed they are rated at.... for example, my amd processor is a 1800. Is that 1.8 ghz or the 1.53 ghz my comp reads?
    AMD Athlon XP 1800+, MSI 6712, Nvidia Geforce2 MX 400, 512 DDR, Maxtor 80GB HD, Sony DRU-710A, Hitachi GD-5000 DVD-ROM, WinXP SP2

  2. 1.53 GHz

1800 is a PR (public relations) value which is supposed to indicate it is similar in performance to a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor.

  3. They mean to say that their 1.53GHz CPU will match up with a 1.8GHz P4 in most cases, although I bet you the 1.8GHz P4 will leave it standing with video encoding and the 1.53GHz AMD will blow the 1.8GHz P4 out the water with gaming and unpredictable tasks.

It is confusing how processors should be compared nowadays, isn't it?

If you are after more speed and don't mind taking a little risk, you could overclock that CPU and gain more power. See my signature.

then compare with the money you should pay for a platform, please...
Should I be so crazy to go with Pentium just for a label to stick on my computer that says "Tampax Inside" ?
