this one caught me bu surprise, microcenter has started carrying the new AMD "apu's":

    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0366949

they're 100w TDP and they only have 4mb of L2.

one has to wonder if AMD is even serious about competing with intel or if management is purposely trying to bankrupt the company.

benchmarks from around the web aren't too kind to the new cpu's:

  2. It's nice that the integrated GPUs are finally getting powerful enough for basic computing. But other than that, zzz... The comparison with Quick Sync in MediaEspresso was embarrassing! (Though I'm still not convinced Quick Sync's quality is sufficient. I don't have a Sandy Bridge system myself yet.)

I don't think anyone at AMD is trying to bankrupt the company. They just don't have the resources to compete with Intel. And Intel isn't even trying hard now. With the speeds over-clockers are getting it's obvious Intel could release much higher clocked chips any time they wanted.

there's no question that the software side needs to catch up to the hardware side, there isn't a single app that comes near to exploiting QS' capabilities. however the ability to do SAHD in hardware as well as all set the motion search range say to 64, assuming my guess is correct and the performance impact is negligible on the faster SB's, should theoretically allow QS to surpass most, if not all, software based encoders.

now if only someone was enough enough to code such an app.

but AMD would have the resources if they actually put out a product that made people say "wow"; this "fusion" should have used the bulldozer cores as AMD originally announced 2 years ago, not slightly reworked phenom 2 cores.

it's like they just don't care anymore.
