  1. Hi there,
I haven't been able to find any other topics relating to this, so I assume my problem is relatively easy to solve, or I'm totally in the wrong forum. I would like to set up my projector as a separate monitor connected to the VGA port on the rear panel of my G4.
The problem I'm experiencing is that when connected, the computer does not recognize the projector (a Sanyo SW-30 LCD), and vice-versa. I've tried switching everything off, on again and also powering up in different combinations. No luck.
I have an Apple Studio Display connected to the ADC port --- is this prioritizing the video signal? I'm not sure what to do at this point as the 'Displays' option in the System Prefs yields nothing. Should this connection simply pop up when I select 'Detect Displays'? Just FYI, my video card is the factory-installed ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card (16MB of SDRAM) with a G4 Digital Audio (1.2 GHz); Mac OS X (10.3.4). Does this limit the output from the VGA terminal?
Any help would be deeply appreciated,
    Best,
    Cal

Have you tried disconnecting the Studio Display and just booting with the projector? It should recognize both displays automatically, but maybe you could try and isolate the problem. "Detect Displays" should bring up both, but try "Turn on Mirroring" so see if it will at least feed the same desktop to both.

Failing that, a cable or connector problem? Something weird with the Sanyo? (Try it on another computer, if available). etc. etc.
Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh?

  3. I had a problem with my powerbook before. I had to lower the resolution and color depth (thousands) on my main (computer) monitor so more memory could be dedicated to drive the TV. If your running off the same card, this might help.

Its more likely that it wants to you to adapt it to the TV's setting. I don't know of many recent powerbooks that have issues driving a 23" Cinema Display.

If you set the resolution to match the projectors settings, you might have better luck.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

  5. I have an older 2000 "Pismo" G3 upraded to a G4. The video card isn't the greatest but i can get it to work. I think the way the card works is that it splits its memory of the video card when you have something hooked up to the S-video or VGA. This is when your in extended desktop - you have one resolution for your main monitor and one for the external video, so yeah, you need to match the resolution on the external monitor/tv/projector, but if your main monitor is set at a very high resolution and display millions of colors than I don't have enough memory to match the external device.

  6. Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. I will try lowering the resolution again and see what happens. I believe I tried all the possible settings when I was messing with it last week, but perhaps not --- If it's a memory issue it might just be that it's a little flaky. I'll check again and post my findings.
