I am interested in connecting my television and pc. I have a VGA connection on my PC and a S-Video connection on my television. Other than buying the cable, what else would I need to do?

VGA does not connect to S-Video without a frame sync converter box. Expect marginal picture quality.

If all you want is S-video to TV then get a video card with S-video out... they are cheap.
On second thought, take a harder look at your P4 computer, you may have an S-video out, they are very common.

  4. In case it isn't clear, cables advertised as VGA to s-video do not convert VGA signals to s-video signals. They are for use with specific graphics cards that output s-video on an otherwise unused pin the VGA connection. Very few graphics cards implement this feature.

ok. I had just seen cables online that were VGA to S-Video. I'm pretty sure I dont have an S-Video connection on my computer and I've looked EVERYWHERE! I'm not too familiar with S-Video cards? What are they exactly?

  6. Many graphics cards include s-video outputs. Often on a 7 pin mini DIN rather than a 4 pin mini DIN. Four of the pins correspond to an s-video cable. The other pins are usually for component or composite outputs.

This has been addressed dozens of times. Go ahead buy it and learn that it works for maybe 1 % of those with projectors.

    Then come back and listen.
